Lets Be Friends? [[ Open ]]

Einar sighed as he sat down on one of the reading chairs in the Hufflepuff common room. He had a book on Ancient Runes with him and some paper for notes. He needed to read it for his class, but he didn’t mind that fact. He enjoyed Ancient Runes and even though this version was a bit different from the runes found in his home country, he still found them easy.

He didn’t pay much attention to the boy he was sitting near. He vaguely knew him from around the common room as another foreign exchange student. His name began with an R… Rabbis, Ravtis…something along those lines. The other boy always seemed pretty quiet and nervous so he never interacted with him before. He didn’t think that was going to change this night, since he was also reading and Einar appreciated the change to read without being bothered.

Einar did not pay attention to the girl who sat down next to him and that other kid. She was yet another housemate who he didn’t know. He really was going to have to try and learn his housemates’ names or actually be social with them. It was such a pain, though. It was easier to just read a book and if he did want company, there was always Lukas. He just had to make sure that Lukas didn’t learn how small his circle of friends really was. He was sure the elder boy would give him a hard time about it.

He glanced up when the girl spoke to them. He glanced at the cat in her lap and figured that was the reason she wasn’t just getting her own like anyone else would. He knew how cats could be when they were relaxing. His family had a couple of barnyard cats at home that he played with when he was younger. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a spare, but he saw the other boy riffling through his belongings, so he figured it would all work out in the end. He glanced back down at the book, but looked up again when he heard a squeak of pain.

He glanced at the boy and realized he must have found his quill the hard way. He had never been stabbed by a quill, but he figured it must hurt, like a paper cut, not badly enough were a person could whine, though he still would if around the right people, but still pretty sore. When the boy waved at him, he nodded in return and figured this was a good time to speak up as well and finally learn some names. “Are you alright?” Einar asked the boy, a bit concerned but mostly because it was an easy topic.

Raivis managed to quell that urge to cry, and shook his hand in the air for a moment. He pulled his hand up to his face and poked out a finger, looking at it carefully. Hmm...definitely a small hole. But...there wasn't any blood. Just a small flesh wound. Raivis sighed out in relief and put his hand ever so gently down on the top of his book, looking over at his fellow Hufflepuffs. They hadn't laughed at his misfortune! This made them both okay in Raivis' book...he certainly didn't like being laughed at, so he assumed they both must have been kind, empathetic souls who understood his fragility. It was nice.

"Am okay, am okay...don't think it cut me," he said, his voice sounding just a tad overdramatic. He looked up at them and tried to smile again, lifting his book up out of his lap and holding it to his chest, a bit protectively. He was still rather nervous of the two, even if he liked that they weren't mean. "You are welcome- o-oh, ja, I think some are..." he glanced over at the fair haired boy, "I think...potions is the hardest...what about you?" he looked at the girl after looking at the boy, hoping they both disliked potions as well, and they'd have something to bond over. That would make things go so much easier! Raivis would have plenty of stories to tell about his failed potion attempts..."I-I think, um...the best class is Herbology.." he added, much quieter, with a shy little smile. He liked that class very much! It was one he never had problems with, he had quite the green thumb. Perhaps they could talk about that too! Of course, Raivis also took Arithmancy and Ancient Runes- but he didn't want to talk about that. Those classes just made him seem like a geek, plus he rarely found other students who enjoyed the classes as much as Raivis did.

Einar nodded and knew he was basically trapped into talking to these two. They seemed friendly enough and at least the girl seemed to be a bit of a talker. If he was going to have to talk to people he didn’t know, it was always easier with someone who could talk a lot. He would be able to just listen and put a few words in.

“Some classes can be difficult.” He said. He was thinking of arithmancy in particular. He didn’t know what he did wrong in that subject. He would start off strong, but he usually would get the wrong answer. Thankfully it was only an elective course and he was able to drop it in his fourth year.

When the boy mentioned potions, he nodded in agreement, “Potions is definitely not one of my favorites.” He had a few horror stories from that class as well and had made his potions either explode or fizzle out enough times to know he would never want to go into that field. He was looking forward to dropping that course as well.

He thought for a moment about his favorite class, but two came to mind. “I don’t mind herbology, but I prefer Care of Magical Creatures…or Ancient Runes, either one is good.” He then thought about Divination but figured naming two classes were enough for right now. Besides, Divination wasn’t fun or his favorite, he just found it easy. “What about you?” He asked, looking at the girl, trying to be social.

Raivis blinked when he realized he hadn't introduced himself...scratching his cheek, careful of his jabbed finger, he decided it'd probably be a good idea to tell his fellow Hufflepuffs his name(really, it was rather silly to be in the same house as them but not actually know them!), and so he looked over a tad shyly and introduced himself, "O-oh, um, my name is Raivis, is nice to meet you both...?" he held back the 'I think', for he wasn't quite sure yet if liked these two! He hadn't had the time to know if they were...what was the word, 'not suspicious or possibly murders'. Yes, whatever the word for that, that was what he was trying to think of. But, he was going to go out on a limb and assume they weren't murders. ...They'd more likely be in Slytherin if they were. "A-am not so great at charms, or Care of Magical Creatures- th-the creatures are scary, you know? They are...w-well, um, scary."
