Rain, Rain, Go Away. [Aleta] Empty
PostSubject: Rain, Rain, Go Away. [Aleta]   Rain, Rain, Go Away. [Aleta] Icon_minitimeSun Sep 18, 2011 2:28 am

Classes were finally over for the day. Like any other student in the world at his age, of muggle or magic background, Dominik couldn't help but be relieved. Of course, part of his evening now had to be dedicated to the irritating task of homework or studying for said classes, but he was trying to let that little detail slip his mind at the moment. As important as that essay on manticores was, it could be done later. He figured that he deserved a good, long break after a hard day at school. The perfect way to solve this was to do something entertaining to take his mind off of things.

As much as Dominik loved roaming inside the castle, today he just wasn't in the mood to do so. It was far too over crowded with both teachers and students who didn't dare to venture outside and get soaked to the bone by the downpour of rain outside. He was right, the storm was still going on and lasting for quite a while. That was reminding him of the one part of his day that Dominik wasn't too keen on repeating a second time -- the run in with Professor Carriedo. A second occurrence like this in general would be horribly embarrassing, never mind two times in the same day. The halls being crowded just made him want to get out more. Even if the initial meeting of the two wasn't picture perfect, the end of the meeting was actually nice. She seemed to be interested in trying out his plan that he had proposed. It was surprising.

The professor had said she was thinking of trying it after class was over, that much Dominik remembered. Luckily that had actually been the last class for the day. Since no one normally listened to him, he wanted to see if she did it and see the results for himself. Sadly for him, he didn't really know where to find her since the classes were over. Since she was the herbology professor, he figured he would linger outside near the path that led to the greenhouses. There was a nice overhang of castle where he currently found himself sitting safe from the rain. Now just came a game of waiting. Luckily for him, he did have patience when he wanted to. He hoped that Professor Carriedo would come back out here so he could catch her to talk again.

It wasn't often that she listened to the suggestions of students. Mostly because the majority of the students she talked to weren't exactly the smartest people in the world. But occasionally one of them had a smart idea, like trying a new kind of soil, or working out an arrangement that wouldn't have the plants killing each other. So Aleta had learned to be open to suggestions over the past few years. Of course, it would be nice if more of these suggestions meant something, but you can't get everything you want out of life.

And it was even rarer that she went outside while it was raining. Sure the rain smelt and sounded nice, but she rather disliked getting wet why she was still clothed. It made everything so heavy and hard to handle. But, again, she was open to new things every once in a while. And this one was certainly interesting. Plus, she had the tools to fulfill it, so why not try it out?

So that was how Aleta found herself walking out of the nice dry school, heading towards her green houses. She knew better than to leave something sharp and dangerous in the school; more people were likely to look there first, the ground keeper's hut second, and then her green houses third. So she locked everything up there just to keep it away from the students. It had worked so far, and she wasn't all too worried about the students stealing from her.

Shaking those thoughts out of her head, she continued on down the path. It was only a short while later that she ran in to Dominik (though not literally this time), stopping in surprise. "Ah, hello." She tilted her head in confusion, giving him a small smile. "Is there a reason you're out here?" It was never normally a good sign when a student was out in the rain.

Dominik wasn't sure how long he had been sitting out there. He has lucked out since the rain wasn't falling at an angle. If it was, he would have been soaked without a doubt. At this moment in time he was still a little wet in some spots, but he would survive. It was odd over here. Yes it was raining which caused people to stay indoors, but it was almost like it was its own little quiet world over here. It was almost relaxing. He wondered if it was like this out here on sunny days or if students overtook it as well. In his head, Dominik made a mental note to check during his free time on a day with better weather. If it was still this quiet, it would make a great spot to get away from everyone else.

After what had felt like forever, the sound of footprints on the ground coming Dominik's way caught his attention. Breaking his gaze from the stream of rain he had been focusing on for the past 10 or so minutes, he turned to see who it was. He was met with the sight of just the person he was looking for -- Professor Carriedo. Finally. It seemed that luck was on his side for once today.

"Hello Professor." with this, he actually turned his body in her direction where he sat. After all, since this was the woman he was waiting here for, he assumed that they would be holding a conversation. By the looks of it she hadn't been expecting him to be sitting here. "Yes, actually. I was waiting for you. I was hoping that you would be coming this direction." At this point he was a little chilly from being outside, but did his best to not show it to the teacher. Professors seemed to love sending students back inside the castle all the time, and this was not what his goal was at the moment.

"Oh? Why were you waiting for me?" She wondered, amused. She knew why of course, but she was a bit surprised to see him actually out here. Aleta hadn't expected him to actually want to see if she was going to do it. Though, perhaps she should have. He was a Gryffindor after all, and they were known for both their persistence and their stubbornness. Which was why, when she noticed that Dominik seemed cold, she didn't mention it. He wouldn't listen to her any way so why bother.

Nodding to herself, she sent him a smile. "Since you're here, you may as well come with me." She decided, conjuring a rather large umbrella. While she disliked getting wet, she disliked conjuring even more which was why she had been planning on venturing out in to the rain without an umbrella. But now that she had a student with her, she couldn't do that. Aleta didn't want him to actually get a cold after all. Besides, if someone saw that she wasn't giving the student an umbrella to use when she knew how to, she would probably get in trouble.

Come to think of it... Aleta got rid of the big umbrella and conjured two small ones instead, since it would be easier to walk if she didn't have to worry about making sure both of them being covered. Handing it to him, she smiled again. "Come along then!" She started walking towards the greenhouse, humming softly. She might have also been bouncing.

In response to her question, Dominik gave her a nod. "I wanted to see if you were really doing what we were talking about earlier." He thought that she should have guessed that, since he really had no other reason for talking to her outside of class. Unless he really needed it, he was never the type to hang around teachers extra. It just looked creepy. Inside he was a little glad that she wasn't one of the teachers that refused to talk to students outside class about anything other than work. Then this whole thing wouldn't have worked. She owed him for earlier in his head, so even if she hadn't wanted him to tag along, it was too bad.

With her next statement though, he didn't have to worry about that occurring. She seemed to be fine with him tagging along. That certainly made it easier on the both of them. Unfortunately, Dominik was now realizing that this little adventure was going to actually get him more soaked with rain which would in turn make him more chilly. That was the price he was willing to pay to see if this worked though. He was relieved when umbrellas were gotten, that would help a bit. Dominik got up and took the umbrella meant for him from the teacher before following after her. "Thank you Professor." Then he brought up something that he had been wondering. "You said you had an axe, where do you keep it? Is it far from here?" He had never really seen weapons like that around the school unless they were part of the statues all over the castle.

"Ah right. Well, I'm definitely going to try it." Experimenting was nice and all that. She actually felt a bit odd having a student following her around when they weren't in class; this normally didn't happen because there were very few students who had any reason to talk with a teacher about something other than work. Aleta wasn't sure that she liked this. Nodding to herself - and knowing that it probably looked a little odd to Dominik - she decided to just let it go. She probably didn't have a choice in his following her, so she would just make the best of it for now.

Aleta beamed and nodded again, this time in response to his thanks. "You're welcome. Can't have you getting a cold." Not the best thing to happen when dealing with a student, getting them sick. Not the best thing at all. "Mm? Ah, I keep it in one of the green houses." Specifically, in the special, more dangerous, green house that was only kept around for the Potions Professor. Students generally weren't allowed inside, which was why she kept the axe there. Less chance that someone was going to steal it that way.

"I was hoping you weren't lying about it." He replied simply. That would have been not only a waste of time, but he would have gotten wet and cold for nothing. Dominik might have been fond of wasting time when he wanted to, but in this situation it wouldn't have been applicable. Although earlier the pair of them had been chatting it up (or, at least Dominik was in his own way), it now seemed a bit awkward striking up conversation with a teacher alone outside of class. "Oh don't worry, I'll be fine. The umbrella will help." Truth was, he got sick very easily so if he woke up with a runny nose in the next few days he wouldn't have been all that surprised as to how it happened. So he truly was grateful for the umbrella to use.

"In the greenhouses?" he found himself repeating, giving the professor a curious look hinted with confusion. "I've never seen any axes in the greenhouses before." Like all the other students in the castle, he had class there so saw the greenhouses quite often. There were all sorts of plants and gardening tools scattered around the place, but he was sure he would have noticed an axe of any sort. Tools like that normally tended to stick out from the rest, especially if it was a large one. Dominik let out a small chuckle as he continued to walk next to her. "Either I am blind, or you are really good at hiding them for some reason." He was pretty sure it was the latter of the two.

She hummed and shrugged, smiling brightly. "I'm not generally one to lie to students." Unless they asked about her personal life. Then she lied like a sinner. Because it really was none of their business in the first place, so she rewarded their rude questions with outrageous lies. She enjoyed the looks of surprise that crossed over their faces. Aleta tilted her head but nodded. "Well alright, if you say so." She decided, glad that she had at least done something useful for Dominik.

"Yes in the greenhouses. And that's because you've never been in this exact greenhouse." She was almost one hundred percent sure of it. After all, one needed to be a teacher to get in and she was quite sure that this kid was not at all a teacher. Or related to one that worked here. Aleta laughed lightly and shrugged almost playfully. "Well, I don't think you're blind, but I am rather good at hiding things." This was actually true. She didn't often have to hide things, but she was fantastic when she did. Reaching the greenhouse in question, she gave him a look. "Stay right out here." She ordered, going inside to find the axe.

Even if the professor had just outright told him that she wasn't one to lie to students, he couldn't help but be a bit skeptical. For other people it might have been enough, but this was Dominik. He was always suspicious of other people's motives. In school, he was especially weary of teachers and other staff. It was a pretty bad personality trait to have. When Professor Carriedo was revealing the new information about there being a greenhouse that he hadn't been inside before that was used for storing things, Dominik gave her his full attention. He loved storing away little useless bits of information. Some things were just that; useless. Other things that appeared not all that important at the time became useful at the most unexpected of times.

Dominik wondered why he had never been here before, as they approached the greenhouse in question. Even if he didn't have classes in all the greenhouses on the grounds, he still had done a bit of wandering around here before and must have over looked something. "Alright, I will be waiting out here." he said, agreeing to her instructions. Really, he had no other choice in the matter if they were to get this done. Dominik watched the professor walk inside and was left to stand in the rain outside and wait for her return. Sadly the boy was terribly nosy.

Not wanting to bring any suspicion upon himself while he waited, Dominik attempted to peek inside the mysterious greenhouse the best he could from the doorway. He wanted a glimpse of what was in there. Obviously there was an axe, since that was what she was going to get, but there had to be more. Sadly from his position he wasn't able to see much of anything exciting. So it looked like the school wasn't hiding away weapons. Yes, he had quite the imagination. Though he didn't learn much from right now, at least he now knew a secret place with an axe if he ever needed it for whatever reason. That thought alone was enough to bring a small, all-knowing smile to the corner of his mouth.

Aleta nodded in satisfaction and went inside, shutting the door a bit. Not entirely, as if she did that she wouldn't be able to hear him anymore, but enough so that he couldn't see inside the greenhouse. At least, not very well and certainly not well enough to make any sense of what he was seeing. She was aware of exactly what she was doing after all. Quickly going over to one of the bushes lining the path that meandered through the greenhouse, she stomped on the ground next to it and made it jump almost like a cat, standing up straight.

And with this movement she was able to see the glint of silver that meant her axe was still there. Aleta grinned and reached down, pulling the small silver coin out of the ground and tapping it with her wand. Holding it out from her when it snapped back in to it's normal shape - that of a garden variety axe - she smiled happily and turned to go back out to him. She held the axe in such a way that if she tripped over something, it wouldn't slice in to her and cut her open anywhere. Exiting the greenhouse, she smiled at him. "So! Where would be the best place to do this?" She wondered, looking up around the area.

Dominik wondered how long Professor Carriedo was going to be in there. Yes, the greenhouse looked to be rather large from the outside. Most of the other greenhouses were also rather crowded with tools, pots, and plants in every foot of the room. He imagined that this one was no different. Even taking all that into consideration, how long could she possibly be in there? Dominik assumed that since it was her greenhouse and get axe that she wouldn't be all that long. He'd get fidgety if he had to wait any longer.

Luckily for him, a few minutes later she returned with what was clearly an axe. This saved him from nervous pacing around outside, great! That was never a fun activity. Dominik took a few steps back from her, looking the new object over. It wasn't the hugest one around but it would be great still, he was sure. After he was done looking at it, Dominik looked back to the professor. "I think we need to find the biggest courtyard for it to work. Since the castle is really big." No, this castle and its grounds were just plain huge really. It also had so many courtyards that he figured a teacher would have better knowledge of the best one for this. After all, she had been around here far longer than himself, he assumed. "Do you know which one we could use?"

Bouncing on the balls of her feet as she tried to think of the best courtyard for them to go to, Aleta absently twirled the axe. Which really, should have looked ridiculous coming from some one such as herself but, as she had quite a bit of experience with this thing, it instead ended up looking interesting and easy to do. "Well, there is one that should work, but it's on the other side of the school." Literally other side. They would have to either walk around or through the school to get to the best courtyard. Turning to the greenhouse and tightly locking the door, she thought it over quickly.

"There's one on this side that should work just as well though!" It was half the size of the other one and perhaps not as well kept - though that was not her fault in any way shape or form - but it should still do it's job well enough, right? "We'll go to that one first." She decided, nodding firmly and heading off in that direction. Aleta charmed the umbrella to just follow her around, keeping both hands on the axe to keep it from falling off her shoulder. It was a bit heavier than she remembered it being.

Though he didn't outwardly show it, her twirling around the newly found axe like that gave him a small scare at first. The only visible sign of this was that he took a few casual steps away from her just to distance himself a bit in case she had an accident with that thing as the walked. Better safe than sorry. His grip tightened around the umbrella he was holding in the slightest. Honestly, Dominik wouldn't have minded taking a long walk to the other side of the school. That might have sounded creepy given that he was taking a leisurely stroll with a teacher, but it would just mean the more time he could procrastinate on other things he had to be doing. Plus he always loved walks to explore and he didn't really know which courtyard she was referring to. He nodded to show that he was listening.

As quickly as Dominik had these thoughts, it seemed that the plan had already changed. He gave her another small nod of agreement as he followed after her like a puppy. "That one is nearby and still big, right?" She had said it was on this side of the castle, and he did recall there being one somewhere. He just didn't seem to be remembering it in great detail. As nice as this place was, it really could be so large and intimidating to remember what certain places looked like. "Because I think I am remembering a decent sized one over there somewhere." Dominik pointed ahead of them slightly with a hand he had taken off the umbrella.

She didn't even notice him move away from her, too focused on making sure she didn't slip over the rocks they were walking over. It wouldn't have mattered if she had seen it though, as she wouldn't have questioned it. Some people didn't like being so close to teachers and she understood that quite clearly. Which was why, had he voiced his opinion of wanting to go to the other side of the castle, she wouldn't have understood it all. Few people spent time with teachers unless they really liked that teacher's subject. And she didn't think Dominik was a Herbology person.

"It is big, yes. Not as big, but still big. It's about the size of two class rooms put together I believe." She hadn't been to it in a while though, so she might be a bit off in her estimate. Looking in the direction he pointed, Aleta nodded. "That's the one I was talking about." She turned in that direction, not even noticing that she was basically just walking on mud to get to that courtyard. Not that it mattered really.

The professor wasn't the only one who took notice to the new texture of the ground they were walking on. Dominik certainly noticed too. He could he the squishing noises from both their feet sinking in the mud every time each of their feet took a step forward. This was his only pair of shoes appropriate for school here, he hoped that the mud would come off easily. He looked down in front of where he was walking every so often to try to prevent himself from stepping in anything way too deep. "Hm, that doesn't sound too big. Hopefully you are talking about the bigger classrooms!" Dominik sounded a bit amused, and also a little disappointed. He could be right though. Like any school in the world, the size of classrooms in the castle varied from room to room. Two of the bigger ones together would make a decent size.

Dominik looked off in front of him, trying to spot their destination. He thought he could see the area that the professor was talking about. He hoped that this really worked in the end. It would be rather embarrassing if it didn't for some reason. The information was found in a book. Surely a book wouldn't lie to him, right? He didn't want to be judged for the rest of his time at school for this. Inside he did his best to have confidence. "There isn't a statue or anything in the middle of that one, is there?" he thought of suddenly. "Then we wouldn't have a place for the axe." That would be problematic!

Aleta blinked and tilted her head slightly, humming. "The classrooms here are plenty big enough..." At least, they're bigger than the classrooms where she went to school. Which was good enough for her really. But, she supposed it wouldn't be so strange for a student to see the rooms as being on the small side. Beaming at him, she nodded. "Don't worry! The courtyard will be big enough." She was almost positive.

Resisting the urge to bounce as she reached the edge of the courtyard - knowing better than to send mud flying every where when there was a student here with her - she stretched carefully. "Hm? No, I don't think there's a statue in the middle of it." Though finding the exact middle was going to be difficult. Gesturing at the courtyard, Aleta gave him a questioning look. "Is this good enough?" Since he was the expert on this and all that.

"Well that is good if there is no statue or anything." Since they were so close, Dominik found that it wouldn't be rude to walk ahead of the professor a bit. Getting a glance before her wouldn't hurt anything. He didn't want to walk too fast though, since mud as slippery. Slipping in the mud would without a doubt ruin his clothes, and lead to a horribly embarrassing experience with Professor Carriedo. Once the coutyard in question was in view, Dominik stopped walking and looked around to get a feel for the new place. After a good look, he glanced back to Professor Carriedo.

She had been right in her guess. There was no statue, fountain, or anything of the sort that was normally associated with the middle of courtyards. The whole place was actually a pretty decent size too despite his previous unvoiced worries. "I actually think this one will work just great!" he concluded with a satisfied smile. "We just need to be finding the exact middle of the courtyard for it to work." He turned back to the area in front of them. Now how would they do that...

Aleta looked around the courtyard, nodding to herself. It was a pretty big courtyard, and finding the exact middle might be a bit difficult. But hopefully her plan would work. If not, it was Dominik's turn to figure it out. "I think I know a way to do this." Conjuring some rope, she went to one corner of the courtyard and used a sticking spell to keep the end right there. Thankfully whoever had made this courtyard actually made corners for it, otherwise this would be even more difficult than it already was.

She stretched the robe to the diagonal corner, lengthening it whenever she needed to. Sticking that end down as well, she nodded to herself. "Do you know how to conjure rope?" She didn't expect that he would know; and if he did it would be kind of creepy and weird for a fifth year student. But it would be nice if he did know, but she really didn't want to be the one to do the next part. She was still carrying around the axe and it was starting to get really heavy to hold.

When the teacher spoke, Dominik looked back and focused on her rather than on the scenery of the courtyard in front to them. "What is it?" he said, not really seeing anything around them that could be any use. By the time he had said it though she had already walked off to put her plan into actions, so no explanation was really needed. Dominik could see what she was doing with the rope with his own two eyes. Since she was doing all the work, the student could really do nothing but stand there awkwardly and watch her work. He personally thought some type of measuring device with numbers on it as an actual way of counting numbers, but he kept his mouth shut for the moment.

Besides, he didn't have the time to voice his thoughts. Professor Carriedo was speaking to him again. Dominik paused with before answering, and did not look too happy with his answer when he did speak up. "No, I don't know how right now. I have the spell written in a book in my room though." In school he was taught to conjure some things, but rope wasn't one of them. Luckily for Dominik he did know a lot of silly little tricks he probably shouldn't from all the reading he did. "I am just not remembering it right now." He seemed a little frustrated with himself. "I could summon ropes instead?" Sure he didn't know where the ropes would come from, but it was better than the feeling of admitting that he could do nothing at the moment without that book.

He looked so upset that he didn't remember how to conjure ropes. And knowing that he had a book back in his room that would teach him that wasn't something that she actually wanted to know. Actually, knowing that he already knew it and just couldn't remember wasn't something she wanted to know. "No, no it's fine. Don't summon the rope, you might just summon the one I just used and then we would have to do it all over again." The rain was starting to lighten up now, which she was sure Dominik wouldn't be happy about.

She conjured another rope and put that one into place quickly, making sure both of the ropes were in place correctly and tight enough to avoid any kind of mistakes that could crop up. "You can use the axe, if you want to." Aleta decided, gesturing at the cross section of the ropes. Holding the axe out to him, she looked up at the sky and silently asked for it to keep raining a little bit longer, just so Dominik would actually get a chance to do this. It would be nice to not have to come out in the rain again any time soon.

Disappointment was still written all over Dominik's face as he struggled to wrack his brain for the proper spell to conjure a rope. Even if she said it was fine, it still wasn't satisfying to him. He hated forgetting things, especially when it dealt with magic of any kind. Of course, no one could remember everything they read. He watched the professor do what he was wanting to help out with, feeling a bit useless at this point.

That feeling of uselessness and disappointment disappeared for the most part when the professor was done with her rope preparations. The prospect of using the axe was certainly enough to brighten his mood. Dominik hadn't expected to let him even touch it, since teachers normally thought any student with something pointed and potentially dangerous would snap and become some type of murderer. "Of course I want to do that!" Needing both hands for this, he put down the umbrella on the ground, even if it was a bit rude, and excitedly took the axe from her hands before turning to the cross of the ropes. That thing was a bit heavier than it looked. He walked a bit closer, looking behind him while clearly rather happy to see if Professor Carriedo was following or at least watching. "Are you ready to see if this works?" Someone had to actually watch this!
