Exploring The Greenhouses [Matthew > Gilbert > Mei > Lars > Ming]

Matthew enjoyed gardening. He kept a nice little mini garden going back at his home in Canada (thought it's probably died out now), and he grew beautiful flowers when the season was right. So that was what prompted him to visit the school's greenhouses. He'd never been in Greenhouse five before, but surely they'll have a lesson there sooner or later. But he wanted to visit it now, not later!

Pushing the door open, he peaked in. Ah. That was the noise of his jaw hitting the ground. For this place was simply astounding! Shuffling in, he looked all around. The place was full of a warm mist to keep the climate for the plants correct, and the whole place was swelteringly hot. Matthew took off his robe, leaving on his vest and jeans underneath it and hung it up by the door. He also remembered to retrieve his wand from it just in case it came in useful.

Walking around, he saw a tonne of amazing plants! This greenhouse was pretty damn large, considering greenhouse one was so small it barely held all of the class in it. There was a very large venus fly trap-like plant in the corner with a warning sign on its plant pot not to get too close. What was it called? He leaned a little closer and adjusted the position of his glasses to be able to read the label. "Venemous tentacular. That's it! Huh... No wonder they don't want people getting any closer..." He shuddered and moved on.

There were innocent little plants which would sway with slightly breezes but the closer Matthew got, he had to cover his nose and mouth with his hand because the smell they let off was so strong! There were so many fascinating plants that he wanted to explore and discover and read and learn about, and ohmygod what was creeping around his arm in a vice grip?

Living someplace that never snowed and reached a hundred degrees everyday had its advantages, Ming mused as she stepped into the Greenhouse. She had left her robe in her room and was wearing clothes that were made especially for tropical temperatures. A see-through beige Mandarin shirt adorned her torso, under that was a peach colored sleeveless corset-like top. A long red skirt that fell to her lower legs swooshed behind her. She was wearing black flats. The atmosphere in the Greenhouse felt a bit chilly, at most, to her.

The reason why she had visited it was because, without anyone knowing, she had planted some regular vegetables and flowers in a corner of the room. They were hidden from prying eyes and out of reach of some of the more vicious plants. She knew which of them would kill the plants and which would help (even if unintentionally).

Scanning her eyes around, she failed to notice the Canadian around. The first thing she headed for was the far corner of the room where some innocent plants were sitting. She had only planted them two months ago yet now they were already in full bloom! She was amazed by all the magic that helped it blossom. Grabbing a basket from the supply shelf and making sure there was nothing in it, she began picking the grape vines and strawberry plants.

When she turned around, a ripe strawberry half-way into her mouth, she finally noticed the Canadian... and the vine from the Venus-fly trap that was creeping up his arm. Putting the basket down and shoving the strawberry into her mouth, she ran over to help, grabbing his other arm and pulling him away, thereby detaching the vine from him. "Are you a-alright...?"

Matthew was rather busy, attempting to pull himself free of the nasty vine which was squeezing his forearm so tight he was sure it would leave a bruise! Being distracted by the plant meant that he didn't see a girl enter the greenhouse from behind him until he tried to twist the other way and caught sight of her. He was a little reluctant to ask her for help because she was someone he didn't know and she looked older than him...

He nervously opened his mouth to say something but it turned out he didn't have to because at that moment, she noticed him and rushed to his assistance. When she pulled him free, Matthew stumbled and bumped into her, wobbling (curse his clumsy feet). He straightened and massaged his wrist, edging away from the thing which had grabbed him.

"Um, thank you!" He smiled cautiously. "My name's Matthew..." Was it just him or was his voice extra quiet in the greenhouse?

Gilbert ran down the hall as fast as he could. Thankfully, it was just fast enough to out run the angry student. He didn't know why they were so upset, it was just a harmless prank. He just turned the kid's cat into a bird, how was he supposed to know that other cats would try to eat the thing? So anyway, he was now running from an angry cat (now bird) owner when he whipped around the corner. He needed a place to hide, somewhere that kid would never look for him.

He continued to sprint down the hall, but he was getting tired. Gilbert was very lazy and didn't run much so he got tired easier. Squinting so he could see father down the hall, he saw the Green House. His nose wrinkled, ugh, the Herbology room, how he hated that place. Everyone knew how much he hated the plants there and would rather call himself 'Unawesome' than go in there.

It was the perfect place to hide.

He pushed his legs a little harder and ripped the door open then slamed it behind him. He pressed himself against the door, panting heavily and hair tousled.

After taking deep gulps of air he stayed perfectly silent, listening to the echo of running feet pass by. As soon as the echos died down he sighed in relief. Taking a glance up he realised that he wasn't alone in this stupid place.

"Umm, hey?" He said a bid akwardly and out of breath to the two that stood in frount of him.

Mei snuck outside, looking forward to...delightfully rearranging a few things in the greenhouses. She hadn't seen any hall monitors yet, and she hoped she wouldn't. Hopefully, with all the plants rearranged, and her, getting away with it, a certain class she didn't particularly enjoy will ((would?)) be canceled tomorrow. She found the place she was looking for, and quickly threw open the door and ran in.

She saw Gilbert had made his way inside already, and that he was panting, and looking very awkwardly somewhere. She followed his gaze, and saw a quiet boy, and another Asian girl? Taking a deep breath, she said (more like yelled) "Hey guys! What's up?"

Lars had been in the greenhouse most of the day tending to the various plants and flowers, he knew that he had been alone but had seen one of his dorm mates arrive at some point but didn't greet her prefuring to stay quiet and work.

He worked in silence until he had heard more voices in the greenhouse, he sighed and went to investigate the noisy people disturbing the funa. " what is going on here?"

He looked at the small group with his ever present frown on his face, he wasn't angry at them he just looked like he was.

Ming, who was a naturally shy person by nature, immediately felt like she had been bound and gagged with the amount of people in the room. Stepping back a few feet and grabbing her basket--did they know about her secret little garden now?--she gave them a nervous smile. "H-Ha-Halo..." she greeted weakly, giving a small wave towards the large (in her terms) group in front of her.

Her brown orbs quickly scanned the vicinity for an exit. Her mind was reeling and the first signal that it send was for her to make a mad dash towards the door but she held herself back. If she did do that, it would only serve to make things more suspicious. Shaking her head, she decided to idly pop another piece of fruit from her basket into her mouth to calm herself down. Food always made things better.

"A-And yo-you're welcome f-for that vi-vine... mi-mister..." she said shakily.

"Um, hey?"
"Hey guys! What's up?"
"What is going on here?"
"H-Ha-Halo..."

Matthew felt sick. There were too many people in the room! Forget what he'd thought earlier about this greenhouse being so large, with the sudden addition of people - People he didn't know - Matthew felt light headed... The vine was nothing compared to this. He felt a tremor run through his body and he took a few steps back. He'd just wanted some quiet time by himself, but obviously, he couldn't even get that because now all these people had shown up. He didn't even have his robe and he really regretted leaving it by the door because now he felt to open and exposed in his tee-shirt...

"I..." Was all he could squeek out and his left hand clenched around his want while his right hand clutched his inhaler... Just in case. That is. His breathing had quickened and was it too hot in here? He thought it was far too hot in here... he backed up, hoping to hide behind one of the many large plants near him.

Mei grinned at Gilbert. "Perhaps, after all, Care of Magical Creatures can be pretty dangerous..." Well, getting caught didn't seem like a bad idea.

Then, she saw a tall boy, about a foot taller than her look up. He did not look happy at all, though Mei wondered if it was just because that was the way his face naturally fell. Still, nonetheless, it was slightly scary. Oh well, since she was shorter, she could dart in and out if she needed to...Hopefully she wouldn't have to. But just in case, she stood slightly behind Gilbert.

She saw the boy trembling, and remembered she had some Draught of Peace from her earlier potions lesson. Gingerly, she made her way over to him, seeing Gilbert trying to comfort the Asian girl. She smiled, and in the softest voice she could, she said, "Hey, are you okay? Calm down and look only at me. I have some Draught of Peace that might help you! I'm Wan-Mei Chen, a fourth year Slytherin on the exchange program thingy~ I promise, I won't hurt you!" She held the vial out, praying that the boy wouldn't faint.

Lars sighed as he ran his fingers though his hair, he didn't intend to frighten everyone in fact it took all he had to look as normal as possible so that the others couldn't tell he just wanted to bolt.

"You're making alot of noise it's rather bothersome to the fauna" he hoped he didn't sound too rude. He noticed the quivering boy that looked like he was trying to hide himself, he approached the boy and looked down at him. He knew the boy was scared out of his wits with all the people around he had been the same at one point and tried to give him a friendly smile.

"it's alright I will not hurt you" he hoped his English was alright with his heavy Dutch accent some times he could never be too sure.

She nodded quickly, hair flying in front of her face as she did so. "Sh-Shi! I'm fine... just..." her voice lowered into a horrified whisper, kind of like she was telling bad news or an evil omen. "Th-There's... so many pe-people...!" Ming shivered, hugging the basket of grapes and strawberries close to her like a lifeline.

However, her position was also to hide the assortment of normal plants behind her. No one, not even Gilbert, needed to know that she had planted something (without permission) in the Greenhouse. Much less a non-magical plant like grape vines or strawberry plants.

"I-I... maybe I should g-go... that sounds li-like a good i-idea..." she talked to herself and nodded, standing up straighter. "I'm sorry to have bo-bothered you."

It was weird, watching everyone interact. Hell, maybe he could escape without anyone noticing. Although the newly arrived boys and girl were blocking the entrace to the greenhouse- why weren't there two places to get in and out? That would be more convenient, damn it! And that ravenclaw boy... He was really tall, and his face was rather... unfriendly. Not just him, but the other boy - Gilbert? - was too loud for Matthew's tastes. And quite tall. Damn, tall people were intimidating. However, the girl who'd helped him from the tentacle seemed nice, and he'd rather she stayed while the others left...

Instead, he chanced scooting around them without being seen, so he began edging sideways and in front of the plant pots. Just as he'd started to move, however, the new girl decided it would be a good idea to talk to him. Matthew froze in shock, not knowing what to say. "Uh... No thank you... Don't want potion..." He mumbled and continued edging slowly and slightly towards the exit, heart pounding.

However, right after he'd responded to the girl, the tall scary looking ravenclaw spoke to him. It was... kinda terrifying. Matthew stared before bolting from the greenhouse. But he'd barely left before remembering that his robes were still hanging up at the front. He twisted round to grab them but of course, he was uncoordinated on his feet and tripped, face smacking the ground with a slight crunch. Matthew gave up. Waving a little white surrender flag in his mind...

Mei rolled her eyes at the sarcasm in Gilbert's voice. She looked back worriedly at the other Asian and the blonde boy and shrugged. She wasn't even remotely close to the girl, but whatever, she'd let Gilbert take care of it. She was however, going to hex him if he didn't let go of her soon. Before she could say anything, or complain about it, she heard a crash come from the blonde boy, finding him flat on his face.

Mei supposed it wouldn't be the best idea to shout anything out right now. She looked at all the plants surrounding them, and felt the urge to barf seeing all the colors. She resisted though, and looked back at the blonde boy.

Well, She supposed she could help him out a bit.

Discreetly, she pointed her wand at him, uttering a calming spell, that would calm him down for a few minutes until he got his senses together.

He sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, he didn't mean to scare the boy was he really that scary looking?

He winced when he watched the panicking boy trip and fall, he felt horrible now and moved closer after hearing the crunch. "are you alright?" he looked at the ground to see what looked like the boy's broken glasses and frowned. Well that wouldn't do, he knelt down beside the boy ignoring the others and started to carefully pick up the broken pieces.

Ming nodded in thanks to Gilbert, and took the chance when everyone was distracted to take care of Matthew to quietly turn on her heel and creep to the entrance of the greenhouse. She was almost out when her hand brushed against something soft. Blinking, she looked down and found robes. Checking the collar to see which house or who it belonged to, she was surprised to find it was Hufflepuff and that it belonged to the Canadian on the ground with broken glasses. Sighing, she took the robes off the hanger and draped them over her arm. It was the least she could do for the poor boy. Broken glasses were harsh (she should know).

The Singaporean hid her fruit basket behind a plant (after making sure it wouldn't devour it) and walked back over with the robes draped over her arm. When she got a few feet away from them, she took a deep breath and walked over, trying to ignore all the other presences in the room except for Matthew and Gilbert--two people that she could tolerate right now. The other Ravenclaw looked way too scary.

She stuck an arm to help the Canadian out, close enough so that he could see it without his glasses yet far enough so that she wasn't invading his personal space. "I have y-your things... d-do you need a-any help ge-getting up...?" she asked quietly, barely above a whisper. All the extra addition of people were really making her nervous. Lao Tian Ye...

Matthew decided to ignore the slytherin boy's jibe at him. Well, it felt like that. His tone wasn't really friendly, and he'd called Matthew... something. He shook his head and lay on his face for a few moments before a wave of calmness swept over him. He couldn't be sure, but it felt rather unnatural. Magic, probably.

Slowly he sat up and turned to face them, eyes watering (Not that he was crying, he was old enough to handle falling like that!). The bridge of his nose had a cut along it from where his glasses had snapped in half and scratched him. His nose ached, but lucky for him it wasn't bleeding. "Well..." He mumbled, "Perhaps that was for the best. I shouldn't be running in any case." If he hadn't fallen, he wouldn't have gotten far before his asthma got the better of him. "I'm fine." He assured the tall ravenclaw boy (He really needed to learn their names.)

The nice girl who had helped him earlier had Matthew's robes. He could recognise her voice and the colours of her clothes... Matthew smiled slightly and took them from her. "Thank you. I don't need help, I'm fine." If anything, extra help getting up would be the last blow to his pride before it crumbled. He stood, knees trembling from the shock of the fall and took the robes from her. Pulling them on, he squinted, trying to see. Everything was blurry without his glasses.

Mei frowned as she felt herself being pushed over by Gilbert. The guy needed to chill out for a few seconds....not like she should be talking. Shrugging, she got over it pretty quickly. It was probably the plants that weren't making her very happy - yeah, that's probably it. She stood aside as she let the blonde boy recollect himself, with the help of the other two.

It was starting to get hot in the greenhouse, no doubt about that, it was the greenhouse effect, and with all the plants in here... Mei took off her robe and shoved it into her bag, and proceeded to lean on the wall....or what she thought was the wall.

She felt something bite the back of her arm, and forgetting about all the sensitive people inside the room, she let out a screech and an "AIYA!" When she looked back on her arm, she saw that it was bleeding pretty badly.

Just lovely. This is why she hated Herbology.

He silently nodded to the smaller blonde and watched the boy stand up, following suit he stood up as well holding the two broken pieces of the Hufflepuff's glasses. Watching the boy put his robes back on his looked back at the glasses in his hands, he reached into his own robes and produced his wand. He muttered a quick "Reparo" and watched the glasses repair themselves.

He placed the glasses on the blonde face as he had seen him squinting as if trying to see "Much better ja?" He pat the younger boy on the head.

He frowned again however when he heard the sharp whistle from the Slytherin and shook his head at the albino when he had re entered the room. His head turned sharply when he heard the screech coming from the other Slytherin.

Ming yelped in surprise, jumping and holding her arms out in a defensive position--a reflex that she had acquired during her years at her Asian magic school back home. And really, she wouldn't ever want to lose it. When the Singaporean noticed that it was only Mei who screamed, she breathed a sigh of relief, calming her tense muscles. "A-Are you alright?" she asked timidly, walking over slowly and checking over the bite wound. It was turning green. That meant that the bite was poisonous.

Frowning, she pulled out a box from her sleeve, which was clear and plastic, and on the inside were different plants. Each one had a different purpose but all of them were medicinal herbs. Breaking the top open, she pulled out the light green plant and pressed it right against the wound harshly. "This will hurt." But that warning came too late as it sent stings up Mei's arm.

Ming removed the leaf and threw it onto the ground, stepping on it and then taking out her wand. "Ferula," she whispered and immediately a bandage popped out, wrapping itself tightly around the younger girl's arm. "That should do i-it."

From Matthew's eyes, things were decending into chaos. The slytherin boy was running around and talking about a bird, and the two girls where having some sort of plant trouble. The nice Ravenclaw boy fixed Matthew's glasses for him, for which he was relieved and stuck them on his face with a mumbled "Thank you" and sorted himself out. Smoothing out his robes he inspected his hands which were slightly scraped in the fall.

"What were people's reasons for being here anyway?" Matthew asked, voice just above a whisper. He didn't think that anyone other than the Ravenclaw boy would hear him... But it never hurt to try! So he waited to see if anyone had heard. Taking out his wand, he mumbled, "I just came here to look around..." He twirled his wand between his hands like a baton, watching sparks fly out of the end. It was easier to watch things he was doing than watch the people around him and what they were doing.

Only because he was standing so close to the Puffy he heard him speak, or whisper.

He looked back at Ming, she was helping Mei out with the plant, which they both seemed to be doing well. Ming was pretty good at helping people.

"I'm hiding out here. Some people just cant take jokes." He grumbled the last part. Sneaking a peek back out the window.

Wincing as she felt the herbs being placed on her arm, Mei stifled another scream. But gosh, stupid plants, why did they even keep the poisonous, dangerous ones out where students could go and access them and get hurt. But... she was grateful that the older girl knew what she was doing, especially after seeing her arm had started turning green.

After she placed the bandage on Mei's arm, Mei smiled gratefully at her. "Xie Xie~" she said, and she looked around. "What's your name?" she asked the Asian girl who had helped her. She seemed like she would be a useful person to have around.
